Susan Magee is an award-winning writer of fiction and non-fiction. She is the recipient of the 2003 Leeway Foundation's Inspiration Award, the 2000 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant (Top Prize) and the 1995 Leeway Foundation’s Award for Fiction Excellence. Her short stories have appeared in The North American Review, The Florida Review and The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sunday Magazine. Her story, "When Leo Went Missing," was nominated for a 2000 Pushcart Prize.
Susan is the co-author of 101 Ways To Be A Terrific Sports Parent (Simon & Schuster, August 2003). Her next book, with marriage counselor Jeff Bernstein, Why Can't You Read My Mind? (Avalon Publishing) is scheduled for publication in November of 2003. She is the author of Your Dreams and What They Mean (Lawrence Teacher Publications September 2001). She co-wrote The Power of Positive Confrontation (Marlowe & Company, January 2000) which talk show host Larry King called “…the best self-help book ever written” and When the Little Things Count: 601 Essential Things Everyone in Business Needs to Know (Marlowe & Company, January 2001). She ghostwrote the humorous travel guide UFO USA: A Traveler’s Guide to UFO Sightings, Abduction Sites, Crop Circles, and Other Unexplained Phenomena (Hyperion, 1999).
For three years, she taught "So You Want To Write Fiction" and "How to Write a Winning Book Proposal" at various locations in the Philadelphia area. In the fall, Susan will be teaching Public Relations at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.
Susan holds an MFA in creative writing and literature from Bennington College. For the last ten years she has worked on a variety of freelance publicity and writing projects for a number of book publishers. She is the former Director of Publicity and Subsidiary Rights for Running Press Book Publishers. She lives near Philadelphia with her husband David and her two-year old son Christopher.
